Most of the power used in mining comes from hydropower.
The verification process create 300 kg carbon!!! It is nonsens!
I hope you are talking about CO2 in gas form??? If not there will be mountains of pure carbon where the mining rigs are located. Most of the mining rigs are driven on emission free hydro power.
Elon Musk is responsible for spewing out a lot of carbondioxide(CO2) through his rocket launches and production of cars, but not in one purchase of Bitcoin. Those Bitcoins are already mined, and if it was mined on dirty power lets say back in 2012 or 2013 the mining process needed far less energy than today. Anyway Elon Musk is not responsible for the mining. He is responsible for the transaction, and this transaction did not produce 10 million ton of CO2. To say one purchase of Bitcoin creates 10 million tons carbon is like listening to Donald Trump telling the Corona virus will go away in two weeks.
So comparing mined Bitcoins with one purchase — or a transaction today — is useless. It is more like a confession that you don’t know what is going on.
How many tons of carbon emissions do you think the diesel driven panzer wagons that moves paper money and coins around all over the world has provided to the athmosphere since 2010? US printed a few trillion dollars in paper money recently. How was these tons of paper distributed?
Bitcoin and its Blockchain technology is more Eco-friendly than paper money and piles of documents — and will be a part of the future — and the future will be based on fossil free power.
I am not sure you understand what cryptocurrency really is? There are Altcoins that are even more eco-friendly than Bitcoin when it comes down to less energy use.
The problem is not cryptocurrency. The problem is fossil fuel, and the use of it.
